We where trying to go to Gorgeginas and made a wrong turn and passed it. Instead of turning around we decided to eat at the restaurant in front of our hotel. Which I was worried about to begin with as it looked sketchy. We walked in and I got that instinct that this is a bad idea. I begged our party to let's go somewhere else. I wanted to run to the hotel and just order a pizza. You know a Resturant is bad news when they have all you can eat for Fish and Chips for 11 dollars. Their restaurant is huge and only 5 tables were occupied when we walked in. The menu is horrible. My wife ordered the Chicken Soup and Buffalo Tenders. She had one slurp of her Chicken Soup and immediately spit it back up in her napkin. Seeing my wife do this worried the rest of our party. In 6 years, I have never seen my wife do this once. We thought we were all going to get food posioning and die. The sliced Beef Brisket sandwich was eidble. Notice I did not say good. My mom said her fish and chips were good and my dad said his BLT was good. My wife's face was still green as she ate her Buffalo Tenders. If we all wake up tomorrow we will laugh about this experience for years. Avoid this restaurant at all cost.

Staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was great! Really - scrambled eggs and biscuits & gravy were nothing short of amazing. Probably among the best I've had out. The decor is the only thing holding me back from a fifth star for this little diamond in the rough.

I would give zero stars if I could. Waited 40 minutes for an omlet while others that came in after us were served. Waitress no where to be found. No matter how good the food MIGHT be not worth it. Waitress clueless on foods, no explanation for our 45 minute wait with no food in sight... We finally paid for coffee and left. Other patrons also sitting foodless after an hour wait. This place will not last and rightfully so...no management on site either.... AWFUL. Don't waist your time or money

Just wanted to note that we haven't been back to this restaurant in several months. Our last two visits were not good (such bad service again and the food wasn't very good either). I really want to like it here, but the place really suffers from an identity crisis (no doubt due to lack of money to completely update such a large restaurant which is understandable). They really need a manager in who can run the restaurant and somehow get some customers too because it's just so weird to be the only ones in the place.

Food: Fantastic! (everything else, ugh). They ARE remodeling, but if you don't mind the utterly (and maybe even slightly charming?) horrible decor, the food is well worth it.

While the Bay Town Kitchen side still hangs on the inside, the waiter and chef informed us that it is now going by another name, Michigan Grille or as the sign outside says, MI Grill. Upon entering the building I was greeted with the aroma of the wonderful bakery just inside the door. The baked goods were amazing and would make any foodie like me drool. I meant to snap some photos, but forgot. My husband and I both ordered sandwiches. He ordered a fancy club crossed with a BLT. I ordered a brisket Ruben. All of it was good. Even the fries. We ordered the Cheddar Ale appetizer. One of the best I have tasted. What I thoroughly enjoyed was that the breads were all homemade and made right in house.

4.5, but I'll lean for the max. Don't be fooled by the exterior of this restaurant. It looks like a typical family place with it's usual assortment of not-so-good food, but the menu was fairly creative and the execution wonderful. We stopped here on our way out of town for the convenience and were quite surprised. The interior has that family atmosphere, too but those impressions fell away when we looked at the menu. I had an asparagus/leek/swiss cheese omelette. It came with what appears to be home made bread for toast. It was delicious. My So had a more traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. She love the bacon. My 1/2 star from tops was the coffee. It had a right to be better, so as to fit in with the rest of the fare. Our waitress was efficient and professional nice. Aside from the family look, it was clean and not flashy. One of the best breakfasts I ever had.

Stopped in again, for lunch this time. Tried the ribs. Still not great. Just don't bother with this place. It'll close when the owners get tired of dumping money into an empty room attached to a kitchen.

My husband had breakfast I had lunch. prices are way to high and it's to complex of a menu. Especially with the menu and then the chalk board of food. Had a chicken sandwich all dark meat, it didn't state that on the menu, had it and Ii would not have ordered. Server was also rude. Can't remember her name.

Amazing new favorite restaurant. Incredible menu, full of healthy ingredients and unexpected flavor combinations. It looks like people aren't aware of its presence yet because I wanted to stay there all day for lunch and dinner to try more items. Jamie had the Baytown sausage omelet that combined some great herbs and cheese. Portions were huge & Ellen brought hot sauce to our table unaware that Jamie loves it in his eggs. She was also very attentive and polite. I had the quiche with blue cheese and prime rib, along with Carmelites onions and a side spinach salad that had the tastiest basil vinegarrette on it. Great place, you need to try it!

My boyfriend and I decided to go here for breakfast while on vacation in Traverse City. We only picked it because we were hungry and it was on our way to the beach. Such a surprisingly great experience! The restaurant looks like any old diner...a little run down, but clean. Our server was really nice and gave us a few recommendations. We decided to go with them - I got grilled cheese and tomato soup and the bf got the brisket hash. Our food was SO good! It was all made to order - including my soup. We were both so happy with our meals and ate everything. One standout was the homemade strawberry jam - the best I've ever had. We tried to buy some, but, unfortunately, they don't jar it and it wouldn't make it on our ride back to Chicago without refrigeration. Don't let the outside appearance hold you back from coming here - the food is cheap and really delicious!

...A mixed bag... The place looks kinda dumpy both on the outside and inside. The building may have been a Big Boy at one time. The server that we had was weak, but the breakfast was terrific and reasonably priced.

Yuck. Hated the homemade hash. The meat in it was gross. The eggs were over cooked. The toast was soggy. The mac and cheese for my daughter was gross. The omelettes looked ok...except they were out of peppers. And they were out of gravy so no biscuits and gravy. How are you out of core breakfast ingredients?

This place is morphing from Bay Kitchen Inn to MI Grille. The most impressive thing was the food. I thoroughly enjoyed the brisket hash and the hubby liked his apple compote pancakes. But the service and amenities need much spiffying up. The silverware and salt and pepper shakers were very commercial and didn't match the hip menu. Waitstaff seemed confused and overwhelmed even though the restaurant wasn't packed and there seemed to be plenty of staff. Will try this place again hoping they've stepped up their game.

Stopped here on my way back home after staying at the Country Inn next door. I must say we were pleasantly surprised by the food choices and service. It looks like a Denny's on the inside and outside but they don't have lemon poppyseed pancakes! Or homemade Michigan sausage patties or leek, Swiss cheese and portobello mushroom omelettes! Mmmm! I'm returning next time I'm in TC.

Vegan and breakfast can be very difficult or incredibly boring, but our server helped me assemble one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. The coffee was great, the potatoes were awesome. The outside says greasy spoon, but the menu has heirloom tomatoes and perfectly ripe strawberries! The cranberry pecan toast and the cherry-apple compote were awesome too.

Expected "big boy" type food and was wonderfully surprised! Had sausage, caramelized onion and swiss omelet with fresh made sourdough bread AND homemade strawberry jam! The food offered inside definitely does not match the look of the building, don't pass this place by. They use local ingredients in their dishes when they can as well, another plus in my book

We took a chance on this place tonight because Bubba's was too busy. We should have walked out as soon as we saw the gingerbread house on the counter on January 22. First off, it was freezing cold on the restaurant. My kids had to put their coats on. Secondly, they did not have crayons for kids. Even the most divey place we go has something to entertain kids. While waiting for our food, we watched the couple across from us wrinkle their noses at all of their food. They paid and left it uneaten on the table. They did not have the beer my husband ordered. When our order came, it looked like something from kitchen nightmares. I ordered the taco special and both the beans and rice were hard and shaped like the bowl they had sat in since taco night the week before. The tacos made hubby gag and made me worry I might be sick later. He ordered the turkey club "bay town" style. Don't do it! The omelet under the turkey club was runny and raw. They were out of pretzel buns and there was no bacon on it. Absolutely the only thing that was ok was the plain pancakes my kids ate. I cannot believe this place is still in business. It is really depressing in there. Worst restaurant experience I have had in town aside from Golden Chopsticks.

i love all the food i have tried here. although it is a little discomforting to sit down in here in the winter and the wait staff is wearing their winter jackets inside and its just plain cold inside as well as out and the coffee you get doesnt stay warm very long because of the ambient temperature of the room. if they had a barista(gourmet coffee) i would give more stars. it is a coffee generation and the coffee here is definitely lacking.

I saw a picture of the BBQ Pork Sandwich on Facebook and knew we had to get there for dinner. We were happily surprised that Tuesday night is kids eat free. Score! The BBQ sandwiches were just the way I like them - the homemade bun was delicious. We had a yummy bowl of chicken noodle soup as well. One of my children had mac & cheese and didn't say a word through the meal because she was so busy eating. Our waitress was nice. Attentive but not intrusive. All in all a great experience. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I have had breakfast here several times and have really enjoyed it. The make their own corned beef hash and I had a dish with pierogi's that I'm going back for.

Love this place!! Food is awesome... Need to work on more staff for better service, I'm sure it will get better as they grow. For me it's all about the food and the food here is awesome !! I've been here 5 times and have never been disappointed.

Best breakfast I have ever had! Best homemade bread too! Hidden jem. We walked across the street from our hotel here for dinner. More people should give this place a shot!

I left a review a few months ago that wasn't very great. I have been here a few times since and I've totally changed my mind. I think the food is fantastic! They have possibly the best breakfast I've ever had. Sandwiches are great and portion sizes are perfect. The menu has a lot on it that sounds so good. We have had great service every time, prices are decent- maybe a little on the high side, but decent. Decor is still weird but it's a newer place and they are still working on it. The music playing was horrible but oh well. I will come here again and again.

If you need a place to teach your restaurant staff what not to do......this is the place. We waited close to 10 minutes to be seated, while there were seven visible seating areas either not yet cleared, or cleared and vacant. The staff seemed to have been trained on how to ignore starving customers ( some with little children), which were hungrily looking at the lucky few that were savoring their breakfast. My omelette came cold so I had to grab someone passing by my table that appeared to work for the place, and request that it be warmed up. It did come back promptly. What we noticed was that there was nobody in charge or overseeing the service and smooth logistics common to a well trained restaurant. The place has a lot going for it....great location, excellent facilities, some very dedicated workers badly in need of training. The food needs some improvement and creativity.....I hate to see so much potential wasted. And...please, before you get hit by a lawsuit, correct the indentation in the floor by the cashier, where an elderly costumer almost fell during our long and totally ignored waiting period. Do not recommend.

With all the dining options in traverse city,I would recommend not trying this restaurant. Think Denny's but about 90 percent worse. Our first clue should have been the empty restaurant at 7 pm on a Saturday night in the summer. The waitress was friendly and attentive, but that's as far as the compliments go. The menu is pretty weird and random. The restaurant itself was kinda rundown and didn't really feel clean. I wouldn't be surprised if this place showed up on the kitchen nightmares show. Bathrooms were not clean and the men's room even had mold in the urinal...glad I didn't visit until I was on my way out. When the food was served, honestly, we were all a little afraid to eat. Cod was overly battered and really greasy and came with about a pound of fries. Toast was like a brick. Pancakes ended up being ok. Most everything was REALLY greasy though. When we pulled in we thought that it might be a dive. Well, this is one time we should have judged the book by its cover. Big disappointment! Especially since we were on vacation and looking for a good meal in this great city.
